Notes on screen typography
Line length, rhythm and the quiet details that make long text comfortable.
Most reading problems on screens are not about fonts. They are about measure — the number of characters per line. Somewhere between 60 and 75 feels natural for prose.
Vertical rhythm matters next. A consistent line height and spacing that follows it make a page feel calm even when it is dense.
System fonts have become genuinely good. Using them removes a network request and makes text feel native on every device.
Finally, contrast: not pure white on pure black, but slightly softened tones that do not vibrate after ten minutes of reading.
